Coaching conversations are confidential. Information shared by the client will not ordinarily be disclosed to the client's employer, sponsor or any other third party without the client's consent, except where disclosure is required or permitted by law or is necessary to protect the client or another person from serious harm.

The coach will comply with applicable UK data protection and privacy legislation and will process personal information only where there is an appropriate lawful basis to do so.

Confidentiality may be limited where:

disclosure is required by law, court order or other legally binding requirement;
there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to the client or another person;
there is a safeguarding concern involving a child or an adult at risk;
disclosure is necessary and proportionate to prevent or detect serious crime;
disclosure is otherwise justified by an overriding public interest; or
the client has provided informed consent to disclosure.

Where it is lawful and safe to do so, the coach will normally seek to discuss the proposed disclosure with the client before information is shared. This may not be possible where doing so could increase the risk of harm, prejudice an investigation, or otherwise conflict with a legal or safeguarding obligation.

Where disclosure is necessary, the coach will seek to share only information that is relevant, necessary and proportionate to the purpose for which it is being disclosed.

The coach cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality in circumstances where there is a legal or safeguarding obligation to disclose information.
